Yerba mate infusion contains little caffeine; approx. 100 teabags of yerba would be needed to equal the amount of caffeine from one cup of coffee. Stimulating effect of yerba comes from mateine - a unique substance, which can only be found in yerba mate leaves. Research has proven that, unlike caffeine, mateine is not addictive, and its stimulating effect does not cause a strain on the heart. Please note, however, that the amount of dried to prepare infusion should be adjusted individually, starting from 2 tablespoons, and having regard to three principles:
Science has also established that yerba is a potent antioxidant and can reduce some effects of oxidative stress in human body. This means that nowadays, when adrenaline level can remain dangerously high for prolonged periods of time, yerba is able to equalize and stabilize our nervous and hormonal systems. Mixing yerba with herbs such as camomile, mints, anise or lemongrass gives it a special flavour, depending on one's liking. |
