The yerba mate infusion is one of a short list of drinks that we can be sure that are free of any toxic substances. The cultivation of yerba mate is very difficult. The basic requirements for the plant is clean soil and air and a lot of rainwater. After a year a seedling of yerba mate grows to 15 cm approximately. First harvest can be made after 5 years. Experiments with planting yerba in Asia and Africa have failed. The natural habitat of Ilex paraguariensis is one of the cleanest places on Earth. Multilateral activities of various funds, organisations and associations saved this region from destruction. A subtropical forest is a special place. The yerba mate plantations are established in the virgin subtropical forest, the crops are hand-picked, thus allowing a careful selection of leaves and buds. Only plants cultivated in a traditional way, with no chemicals added, are going through the production process. Fully automated cutting and packing processes guarantee high quality of the final product. Each year over 300.000 tons of yerba mate is produced. Modern-day lifestyle, environment and food pollution cause people to seek natural enhancing medicines, to get rid of toxins and comfort one's nerves. Yerba mate is for those, who live a stressful, fast-paced life. Often, eating food rich in fat and chemical preservatives cause lifestyle diseases. Yerba mate enhances the removal of unnecessary fat and helps to get rid of poisons from the organism. Frequent drinking of yerba mate may improve your health and helps to keep body in optimal form. To get the best taste and health values from the yerba mate infusion, clean water should be used. The most suitable is a still mineral water with a low concentration of calcium and magnesium ions or tap water filtered through an active carbon filter (type Brita or Anna). Water has to be boiled carefully, preferably in an enamelled kettle free of limescale. If water is boiled in an electric kettle, it has to be free of limescale as well. Water has to be brought to the state of 'white boiling' i.e. when air bubbles appear and start to diffuse. The water temperature is around 80 degrees Celsius - the perfect temperature to prepare yerba mate. |
